Teachertube

Are you also the one that is frustrated about school internet that blocks the sites? Like Youtube because they feel they are inappropriate.  To remedy that problem, sites like “teachertube” offer an alternative so that teachers can use videos in the classroom that are otherwise blocked. This site is mostly videos, audio and documents created by other teachers, and then shared by the creator.

Check out now! I am sure that you are going to learn something new here. It is a great way to share our resources and just have some fun.

Useful Tools: Google

Google Apps for Education is making a huge impact in the way teachers teach and students learn in schools all across the country. Google for Education’s Google+ Group shares ideas and inspirations to over a million followers. Still not convinced?
Here are 5 reasons you should become certified in Google’s education suite.

  1. Increase student learning
The number one reason is to increase student engagement and consequently student learning. Morten Fahlvik, researcher at itslearning, sums up the importance of prioritizing learning. “Technology works only when it’s connected to a desired learning outcome,” Fahlvik says, adding that technology should be left out when its impact isn’t clear. The Google Apps for Education is a great way to increase engagement in the classroom.
  1. Streamline assessing and sharing student grades
Grade students’ work and share the results online via Google Classroom. With Google’s products, educators can give instant feedback on students’ work and share grades with selected students for case of group projects.
  1. Measure your impact
Bruce Wellman, author of Got Data? Now What?, believes in the importance of facilitating data-driven dialogue to measure the impact of school and district. At the classroom level, Google’s data analysis tools can help educators measure their impact and promote collaborative data dialogue.  You need to properly understand the tools in order to understand the data.
  1. Satiate individual needs with Google products
To become a certified Google educator, you must demonstrate ability to use Google Drive, Sites, Gmail and Calendar. Additionally, you must pass one Google for Education elective exam on the Chrome web browser, Chromebooks, Google play for education and Android tablets for education.  This allows educators to become certified in their institution’s chosen tools set.
  1. Boost your (and students’) education technology literacy
In addition to sharing grades online and measuring your impact, Google Apps for Education makes many other things easier, faster and more streamlined, such as assigning individual or group projects to students. Mastering the Google suite will boost your education technology literacy. What’s better? You’ll be able to transfer your education technology skills to students.

Multimedia Flashcards

The traditional flashcards is made up of paper and hand writing of the teacher. But because of the revolution of our technology in industry, we can now make/use flashcards using the technology.

I made Electronic flashcards about things we used during Sunny and Rainy weather:

When making e-flashcards, the teacher should select one transition and animation for all slides, so it will be consistent. Thus, the teacher should be careful in pronouncing the words because the learners will imitate on how it was pronounce. Also, be careful on the pictures you put; it should be appropriate for your learners and the words are easily recognize.

Demo-teaching

A Day with Andy

Last September 26, 2016, Monday, we had a teaching demonstration in our subject Educational Technology 2. The main purpose of our demo is to use technology-based instruction. The title of our demo is “A Day with Andy”, our main focus here is the students will be able to count from 1-5. We started the activity through song entitled “Five Fingertips” in the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

In our discussion, there is a girl named Andy who needs a help to buy ingredients for baking a chocolate cake. The students have their own list and they will check after picking up the ingredients.

In our Application and Generalization, there were questions posted on the screen. The students will come and click the right answer using the mouse.

In our Evaluation, there were pictures of fruits and vegetables posted on the screen; the students will count those pictures and will answer by raising alternative-response card.

21st  Century learners now are more on technology, young or adult are now using it. Technology makes our world easy and interesting. Especially for teachers, it will help us to impart learning easy. It is very important that teachers can adopt on the changing environment.Educational technology is very relevant for teachers and mostly for students. This kind of subject is useful for those who are taking up Education. It teaches Education students on what other strategies he/she can use. That’s why I’m happy for having a subject like this.

In our Educational Technology teaching demonstration, there are positive and negative that stood out. The positive was our audience-that are of my age like our power point presentation. The negative was in my part there was  a technical problem happened. Our voice records cannot be heard for students; voice records are very important in our presentation. Then on that time, there was a dead air in our presentation.

In our teaching demonstration, the activity I like that we have implemented is when children will count the pictures on screen and they will raise their answer using the response card.

If I will be given a chance to teach it again the first thing I will do is check first the materials if it’s working or not. I will count the shopping list again and again to check if it’s still complete. Also, if I were given a chance I want to do it individually, so if there’s something wrong happened the blame will be in me; others will not be affected.

As a teacher, I learned that there are many ways to impart learning. This Technology-Based instruction made me realize that I can make a lesson or story using a PowerPoint presentation because before I know that PowerPoint is only used for making reports in class. Also using this kind of instruction it will attract more the attention of students because they will feel excited on what they will see next.

As undergraduate student, I discover that I can do better when using a technology. While we were doing the PowerPoint presentation I discover something new. I discover on how to remove the background in pictures; inserting a background music in all sides and how to trim it; putting motion path on the pictures. Making this kind of presentation needs more patience because you need to find pictures that are appropriate for preschoolers and you need to edit it.

Reflect on Technology Skills

What skills do you have and what skills would you continue to work on to be better at utilizing electronic resources?

When I was in high school, I really don’t have experienced in using the technology application for education, especially using the PowerPoint. As I enter in College, I learned how to use it like in making reports for our subject. But I got really shock when we can create a story using the PPT. Through exploring this application, I learned a lot of things such as inserting a background picture, duplicating the slide, removing the background of the picture, inserting videos, sounds and pictures, making the picture to move by clicking the motion path, setting a timer and etc.

I think the skills that I still need to work on is contrasting the colors because sometimes the colors that I used was not contrasting to each other.
